Broke down and rammed by a truck

Their van broke down on the Innkreis highway and they waited for help. But when the police arrived, there was a crash: a truck driver overlooked the broken-down vehicle and rammed into it. The result: one occupant trapped, both injured.

Due to a technical defect, two Romanians (53 and 57 years old) had to park their van in Weibern in the evening on the emergency lane of the A8 Innkreisautobahn in the direction of Wels. The two Romanians waited in the van for the towing service. The van was on the far right of the emergency lane and was secured by hazard warning lights and a breakdown triangle.

At the same time, a 44-year-old Turkish citizen was driving his articulated truck in this area. According to his own statements, he had overlooked the box van parked on the emergency lane due to the weather and the heavy traffic and had also veered a little too far to the right. As a result, he rammed the van from behind, the passenger was trapped and had to be rescued by the fire department. The two Romanians were seriously injured and were taken to Wels Hospital after first aid by the emergency doctor.
