Girlfriend relieved: Varga has come through surgery well

Hungary striker Barnabas Varga has come through the operation following his horror injury in the game against Scotland on Sunday. His girlfriend posted an Instagram story thanking him for his support. The 29-year-old is due to leave hospital on Wednesday. 

"Barni came through the operation well. He will have to rest a little, but he will be fine," wrote Laura Skrapits in her Instagram story, which shows a photo of her holding her friend's hand. Varga now has to recover and will be allowed to leave hospital again on Wednesday.

Skrapits also thanked everyone for their kind words and all the support she and Varga have received since Sunday. The 29-year-old Ferencvaros Budapest striker, a former Austria international who had played for Mattersburg and Lafnitz among others, had crashed his head into the upper arm of Scottish goalkeeper Angus Gunn after a free-kick in the penalty area during his team's 1-0 win on Sunday.

He suffered several broken bones in his face and a concussion. The horror crash left players, fans and coaches equally devastated. Varga was unconscious at first and eventually had to be carried off the pitch with a face shield.
