Knife stabbing in Vienna: suspect identified

After a knife attack in Vienna-Ottakring last week, the police were able to arrest a suspect when they caught him dealing. After his interrogation, a second suspect was also identified - he is said to have wielded the weapon during the crime.

The first suspect, a 21-year-old Algerian, was observed selling narcotics at Yppenplatz in Ottakring on Thursday and arrested, as the police announced on Saturday.

26-year-old suspect responsible for the crime
In the course of questioning the 21-year-old, a second suspect, a 26-year-old Afghan, was identified and arrested in his apartment. He is said to have drawn a knife during the fight last week and inflicted several stab wounds on the 22-year-old.

The Algerian was initially reported at large, but was taken to a police detention center shortly afterwards due to an outstanding arrest warrant. The Afghan did not confess and was taken to a detention center. Further investigations are ongoing.

Victim was able to leave hospital
The victim had suffered several stabs in the back during the night-time attack. The young man has since been able to leave hospital. His life was not in danger.
