Mia was in a hurry: birth in an ambulance

An expectant mother from Mellach near Strasbourg (Carinthia) had strong contractions and a team from the Friesach Red Cross arrived immediately to take her to the hospital in St. Veit. But Mia was in a hurry and was born in the ambulance.

First responder Susanne Zitzenbacher, who lives near Mellach, was quickly at the expectant mother's side, and shortly afterwards three ambulance crews and an emergency doctor arrived. They all set off in the direction of St. Veit - with sirens, flashing blue lights and a brisk pace.

Birth in a private parking lot
But the journey came to an end in Sand near St. Veit. The baby pushed out of a private parking lot and Claudia Lohnauer (26) gave birth to Mia.

Apart from the experienced emergency doctor, the birth was a first for everyone - the joy was all the greater! Mother and child are doing well, the proud obstetricians visited them both in hospital the next day.
