Oil theft in Syria goes wrong: one dead

An attempt to steal oil from a pipeline in the Syrian province of Homs has ended fatally for one man.

A huge explosion occurred on Sunday in the town of Al-Furqlus. Eyewitnesses immediately ran to the scene and saw flames and heavy smoke shooting into the sky. According to the newspaper "Al Watan", the fire department was quickly on the scene and was able to extinguish the fire.

In the meantime, the cause of the explosion has been reconstructed. Two men had tried to drill a hole in the pipeline in order to steal oil from it. One of them was fatally wounded in the explosion.
