The Almtal ski resort has seen such a strong increase in visitors this season that the bosses are convinced that it will remain open for skiing next winter season. However, whether it will be possible to ski again at Easter depends on the weather - without fresh snow, the chances are slim.

We definitely want to run the Kasberg again next winter," is the clear message from Fritz Drack, who, together with his brother Johann and many other investors, saved the Kasberg from closure. As previously reported, the ski resort was in the black in the season that has now ended - a stark contrast to the loss of around 1.3 million euros in the 2022/2023 season.

Big plus
"Despite the difficult winter, we were also able to record an increase in visitors of around 30 percent," says Drack happily.

Negotiations and overhaul
Negotiations with the insolvency administrator, investors and the state of Upper Austria regarding the continuation of the ski resort are in full swing, but they are optimistic due to the good results. According to Drack, a renewal of the already twenty-year-old snowmaking system is overdue: "With modern equipment, we could ensure four months of operation down to the valley, but the complete replacement costs around ten to eleven million euros, which is not feasible without appropriate funding."

Bass Mountain but fixed
Whether it will open again at Easter depends on the weather: If it snows by then, the chances are good. However, the Bass Mountain event on Easter Sunday, which officially marks the end of the season, is certain to take place.
