Easter gnome campaign
Tierschutz Aktiv needs all the support it can get
The Tierschutz Aktiv association is sounding the alarm. Never before have there been so many (stray) cats that need to be neutered. In order to do all the work, the activists need the full support of Carinthian animal lovers.
"As we don't receive any subsidies and rely solely on donations from animal-loving people, the vet costs in particular are a huge financial burden for us," explain Martina and Eri from Tierschutz Aktiv, who have been neutering the numerous stray cats for years - as reported several times. "Unfortunately, more and more indoor cats are simply being abandoned in the countryside because people don't want to neuter them," the two have now realized. Every year, around 1000 stray cats are caught, neutered and released back into the wild, provided the animals are not ill.
Cats have kittens three times a year
"We also look after around 70 cats, 40 dogs and a number of small animals at our foster homes and make every effort to look after their welfare. As a result, high vet bills are our daily companions." Due to the mild winters, cats are now having kittens three times a year, the members of Tierschutz Aktiv report. And no one seems to feel responsible for the strays. "Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for the stray cats we catch to be ill or injured and therefore need additional veterinary treatment."
Easter gnome campaign
As part of this year's Easter gnome campaign, Carinthia's animal lovers can support the important animal welfare work with a contribution of 25 euros and help to alleviate the suffering of animals. The foster animals - dogs, cats, small animals - can also be given presents.
