A risky new start
Courage instead of anger, because: What is a village without a pub?
More and more inns are closing because they are no longer profitable. Daniel Pachinger is counteracting this negative trend and opened his village inn in St. Georgen on Friday.
Some people might think he is crazy to close a pub in times like these - considering that one pub after another has to close because inflation has struck mercilessly and there is no staff to be found. "I would just call it brave," says Daniel Pachinger, who opened his "Dorfwirt" in St. Georgen, a district of Eisenstadt, on Friday.
It was deadlocked at lunchtime
His parents ran a wine tavern in the location and closed it a year ago. "It wasn't profitable to only be open a few weeks a year," says the junior, who claims to have noticed "that people were starved for a village inn".
Until Friday, there was no restaurant in St. Georgen that served food at lunchtime. "I want people to go back to the pub after a confirmation, just like they used to. It's also about traditional values," says the 32-year-old, who still works full-time as a wine consultant. "But I'll help out from time to time," says Pachinger, who has found an excellent waiter in Dominik Fischer and an excellent chef in Christian Praczjer.
Down-to-earth and creative
As the mayor of Eisenstadt, Thomas Steiner, was able to see for himself at the opening, the Dorfwirt serves down-to-earth and creative dishes - whether meat, vegan or vegetarian. "What is also important to me, of course: That the guests get a good Heurigen sandwich in the afternoon," says Pachinger.
