Cycling for the calves
Record number of visitors for bike balance sheet
Last year, more than twice as many Lower Austrians cycled through the countryside on a Nextbike rental bike.
Positive (eco-)balance: Provincial Vice President Udo Landbauer and Susanna Hauptmann, Managing Director of Radland NÖ, looked back on an extremely successful 2023. "Not only did we break records for Nextbike rentals, but we also saw record participation in our kilometer collection campaign 'Niederösterreich radelt'," they explained. And the Radland offer has also been well received by young people: Never before have so many children and young people been able to benefit from cycling courses, workshops and hands-on activities.
Twice as many Lower Austrians registered
But back to the popular Nextbikes: A total of around 1000 rental bikes were available in 58 municipalities across the province. The comfortable bikes were rented almost 203,000 times. This corresponds to an incredible increase of 126% compared to the previous season. This also means that each bike was statistically used more than 200 times! Udo Landbauer, the provincial vice-president responsible for Radland, is very satisfied with the bike rental service's balance sheet: "More than twice as many people registered last year and actively decided to cover their everyday journeys flexibly and conveniently by rental bike."
Cycling in winter
The significant increase in Nextbike rentals in this year's winter season is also pleasing. This development shows that the rental bikes - some of which are in the "Krone" design - are now a convenient alternative mobility solution in all seasons. In recent years, Nextbike has successfully established itself as an ideal means of transportation for short distances. Managing Director Hauptmann: "It is characterized by independence, flexibility and cost efficiency, as the first half hour is free of charge thanks to the Lower Austrian provincial tariff."
