Two-month tunnel closure heats up the election campaign

The Schmitt tunnel has to be renovated - the Zell bypass will be closed for two months. This is causing anger and criticism. And heats up the election campaign one week before the mayoral election.

There is no question that everyone is glad that the damage in the Schmitt Tunnel was discovered early enough - before a catastrophe could happen. This was communicated by the state in December. After a brief full closure, the Schmitt Tunnel has since been open to single-lane traffic - tree trunks support the tunnel portal and prevent collapses. One thing is clear: a comprehensive renovation is needed.
