Mitterrand vs. Macron
Biden makes another promise in election campaign speech
US President Joe Biden has delivered another of his infamous slips of the tongue. "Mitterrand from Germany - I mean France - was looking at me (...)", he said in a campaign speech in Las Vegas on Sunday. He was probably confusing the current French President Emmanuel Macron with his predecessor François Mitterrand. Mitterrand died back in 1996.
In his speech, Biden referred to a G7 meeting in 2021, which he had attended after his election. "America is back," he said. "How long are you back for?" Macron is said to have asked in response (see video above). US President Joe Biden is 81 years old and his age is a constant topic during the election campaign. Regular slips of the tongue and minor missteps by the Democrat at public events provide opponents with plenty of political targets.
Trump also confuses politicians
Former President Donald Trump, who is running for office again with the Republicans, also seems a little confused at times. The 77-year-old recently confused his rival Nikki Haley with Democrat Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the US House of Representatives. According to US media reports, the politician claimed that Haley was responsible for security during the attacks on the US Capitol on 6 January 2021. However, she did not even hold any government office at the time.
Anyone who wants to become a presidential candidate in the USA must first prevail in internal party primaries. At present, everything points to a duel between Biden and Trump, who ran against each other four years ago.
