Drunk driver
Two cars skidded off the Pyhrn highway
On Sunday morning, two cars were thrown off the Pyhrn Autobahn. An intoxicated driver had touched the rear of another driver's car while overtaking. Both had to be taken to hospital.
The traffic accident occurred at around 7 a.m. on the A9 Pyhrn Autobahn at road kilometer 195. A 43-year-old driver from the Graz-Umgebung district wanted to overtake a 78-year-old female driver from the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district. However, he hit the rear of the vehicle. After both cars skidded and left the road, the woman's car smashed through a deer fence and finally came to a standstill.
Here you can see photos of the accident from the Unterpremstätten Volunteer Fire Brigade (FF) on Facebook.
Driver freed himself
The car of the 43-year-old, who was driving under the influence of alcohol, came to a halt in a field. Unlike the elderly female driver, who had to be freed from her car by the fire department and was seriously injured, he managed to get out of the vehicle himself. Both the woman and the man were taken to hospital and admitted as inpatients.
The A9 was closed to all traffic between 7 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. on Sunday. "A big thank you goes to all the emergency services at the scene, who once again acted with professionalism and commitment," wrote the Zettling fire department on Facebook. It was deployed together with the Unterpremstätten fire department, the police, the Red Cross and an emergency helicopter.
