Elementary school to make way for a residential building

The elementary school in Klein St. Veit is being closed. Now a possible residential building is being considered. Because the old building should not be left empty. 

The preservation of the Klein St. Veit elementary school was discussed for a long time - yet the school had to be closed. "Unfortunately, we also lost our application at the provincial administrative court," says Mayor Markus Lakounigg. The children are now being taught at the elementary school in Völkermarkt, St. Margarethen ob Töllerberg and Haimburg, depending on their wishes.

The school building was once again a topic of discussion in the Völkermarkt municipal council. Deputy Mayor Peter Wedenig: "A subsequent use is being considered. A photovoltaic system was installed on the building just last year. 23,000 euros were invested in this."

What will now happen to the 333 square meter system will be discussed in detail by the committees. "One thing is clear: a house that remains unused does not live," Lakounigg and Wedenig agree. They are considering setting up a childcare facility there, for example. "Living space is also urgently needed in rural areas. We would have to expand."
