Girl hit and dragged by drunk driver

In St. Pölten, a 9-year-old girl was hit and seriously injured by a drunk driver in a pedestrian zone. According to the police, the 41-year-old scooter driver hit the girl, who was walking with her mother, on Saturday afternoon and dragged her along for a while.

The 41-year-old had been driving his scooter on Wiener Straße coming from Dr. Karl Renner Promenade in the direction of Kremser-Gasse through a pedestrian zone when the terrible accident occurred. He hit the girl just before the crossing and dragged her along for a short distance.

The 9-year-old girl was given first aid by a doctor who was present and immediately taken to St. Pölten University Hospital.

Under the influence of drugs and alcohol 
The 41-year-old will be charged. During a medical examination, he was found to be unfit to drive due to addictive substances and also tested positive for alcohol. He is also suspected of having been responsible for damage to property in St. Pölten before the traffic accident.

Once the investigation has been completed, the driver will be reported to the St. Pölten public prosecutor's office and the relevant administrative authority, the police said.
