Escaped inmate caught by Vienna police

After two women managed to escape unnoticed from the prison in Vienna-Josefstadt in mid-July, a manhunt was launched for the two inmates. A few days later, one of the two fugitives was caught by the police. The other is still on the run.

The police recognized the 43-year-old fugitive during a traffic stop in Vienna-Währing at around 10.15 p.m. on Tuesday and arrested her immediately - apparently in the car of a Tinder date, according to information from Krone. She was then taken back to the prison.

The two inmates had walked out of the correctional facility on July 18 disguised as "visitors" in casual clothes. The women - aged 31 and 43 - are a convicted offender serving a sentence until 2027 and a suspected fraudster in pre-trial detention.

The Vienna police are still asking for relevant information, in particular information on the whereabouts of the fugitive woman - also anonymously - to be passed on to the Vienna State Criminal Police Office, Central Branch on 01-31310-43800.
