The deal is done: Leopold Querfeld will stay in Berlin after the EUROs and move to Union, where he will play together with ÖFB legend Christopher Trimmel.

The EURO can be a career springboard, but transfer whispers must not cause unrest - one ÖFB team player has therefore clarified his sporting future before the opener against France: Leo Querfeld could theoretically stay in Berlin, as the 20-year-old is moving from Rapid to Union in the German Bundesliga.

2.5 million euro exit clause
Negotiations were not necessary because an exit clause, which was "only" valid until June 17, applies. Union Berlin "only" have to pay a transfer fee of 2.5 million euros for the Hütteldorf native, although his market value is 5 million euros. Rapids sporting director Markus Katzer's hands were tied. Without the clause, the central defender would not have extended his contract with the club until 2025.
