The first nursing apprentices have now started their training in this country. For many, this is the path to their dream job. At the same time, the fight against staff shortages is being declared.

In line with the motto "The country needs more nurses", Sophia Edhofer recently started an apprenticeship as a nursing (specialist) assistant with seven other young people. "I've always wanted to work in care," she explains. In addition to working in five local companies, the program now includes training at vocational school.

"The economy and the healthcare sector are facing the major challenge of finding qualified employees. The new apprenticeships are an important step towards strengthening the care sector in the long term and training our own skilled workers," agree Provincial Councillor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister and Chamber of Commerce President Wolfgang Ecker. The nursing apprenticeship provides an additional training opportunity after compulsory schooling.

According to Ecker, there has been a commitment to new apprenticeships for years in the fight against staff shortages. "I can finally learn my dream job. It never gets boring, you're always learning something new and exciting," says Katharina Wagner, nursing apprentice at Mater Salvatoris.
