The right response
Firefighter saves the environment with Tupperware boxes
When fuel was leaking from a slashed car tank, a female firefighter had the idea that saved the day. Thanks to her swift action, environmental damage was averted.
In Grafenwörth in the district of Tulln, a woman bumped her car over a piece of metal that a truck had lost. The vehicle's tank was slashed open. The driver had the presence of mind to park her car in a parking lot, but gallons of fuel poured out - in the direction of a drainage ditch.
Every second counted
Alexandra Trauner, a firefighter from Stettendorf, happened to be at the scene. When she became aware of the situation, she reacted immediately. Trauner quickly bought two plastic boxes at the nearby Hofer supermarket, where she was actively supported by the employees and immediately queued up at the checkout so as not to lose any time. In addition, oil binding agents were organized at a nearby petrol station.
Fuel successfully collected
With the Tupperboxes and the binding agent, the leaking fuel was successfully collected until the local fire department arrived. "In this case, everyone involved acted in an exemplary manner," praised a fire department spokesperson.
