Marquez also crashes
Jorge Martin wins in wild crash orgy
Jorge Martin won a crazy sprint in the MotoGP on Saturday in Jerez de la Frontera because it involved a lot of crashes. The Spaniard won on Ducati after 19:52.682 minutes ahead of two KTM riders. Second place went to his 19-year-old compatriot Pedro Acosta (+2.97 sec.), third to Dani Pedrosa, who subsequently benefited from a penalty against Fabio Quartararo (FRA) and moved up from fourth to third.
Quartararo received an eight-second penalty for low tire pressure and dropped back to fifth place as a result.
Marc Marquez crashed while leading on one of the damp patches on the track. The six-time world champion ended up in seventh place. Martin, who had previously been involved in a battle for the lead with Marquez, was able to pull away and control the race from the front.
Martin thus extended his lead in the world championship standings. Ahead of Sunday's race, he leads with 92 points ahead of Acosta (63) and Enea Bastianini
