There are no exact figures - but scientists agree: although the intelligent golden jackals have already made their way as far as Norway, they are still hunted in this country despite EU protection. The "Krone" asked wildlife doyen Kurt Kotrschal why this is the case and why these relatives of the dog are harmless.
Many people only know them from documentaries about their original home in Africa or south-eastern Europe. Yet they are actually the "winners of global warming". According to wildlife and wolf expert Kurt Kotrschal, a specimen has now also been spotted in northern Norway. The animals, which look similar to wolves, actually only have one thing in common with them: they are "masters of hiding" - and even better ones at that.
