Austria is stuck in a low: snow threatens

Early summer temperatures are still a long time coming. A heavy cold front reaches Austria in the night to Tuesday - including fresh snow down to low altitudes. This means there is now a threat of snowfall in some places.

Hoods and jackets could be the order of the day again, especially on Tuesday, as weather experts are expecting a deep snow cover of up to 30 centimetres. There is also a risk of snow breakage - the weight of snow on trees is so great that branches or entire treetops could break under the weight.

Traffic experts also advise drivers to leave their winter tires on a little longer. After all, the wintry conditions in the morning could cause snow chaos on Austria's roads.

Wintry temperatures
The snow line on Tuesday will be between 500 and 700 meters and temperatures will be between two and eleven degrees at most in the south of Austria. Only the west could be spared the late wintry conditions.

Heavy snowfall in Salzburg and Upper Austria
Recent snowfall has already occurred in some federal states in the past few days. For example, the wintry conditions in Salzburg caused numerous accidents and operations on the roads. Some places in Upper Austria were also covered in a continuous layer of snow.

It's getting warmer again
The rapid drop in temperatures throughout Austria could also lead to heavy snowfall in the coming days. Temperatures will not rise noticeably again until the weekend, with up to 19 degrees in the east.
