Adobe brings generative AI to video editing program
Adobe is improving its Premiere Pro video editing program with AI functions. Among other things, this should make it easier to add objects to scenes. This could be, for example, a tie on a person or a picture on the wall, the software company explained at the announcement on Monday.
The software will then automatically ensure that the added object is displayed correctly during scene changes and camera movements. It will be possible to make changes by voice command.
It will also be easier to remove objects from scenes - the AI software will then automatically fill in the vacated space based on the surroundings. This is useful, for example, if a microphone is sticking out into the picture or a coffee mug is left on the table, said Adobe manager Joe Saccone, alluding to a well-known error in a scene from the series "Game of Thrones".
The software should also be able to extend scenes a little, for example for transitions, by artificially generating additional images. Adobe did not initially provide any information on when exactly the new options will be available this year and what the pricing model will be.
Already integrated in Photoshop
The functions are part of so-called generative artificial intelligence, so called because it can generate digital content itself. This can be text, as with the chatbot ChatGPT, or images, videos and audio files. Adobe has already introduced such AI assistance in its image editing program Photoshop.
In video, the ChatGPT developer OpenAI recently caused a stir with its Sora software, which can generate video clips based on voice commands. Concerns that studios could at least partially replace actors and screenwriters with AI applications were one reason for the strikes in Hollywood last year, which lasted several months.
