Latvia will grant Ukraine additional military aid in its defensive fight against Russia. Following a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister Evika Silina announced a new aid package. According to the package, material and technical resources from the Baltic EU and NATO country's army are to be handed over in April.

Ammunition, explosives and weapons as well as transportation equipment, personal equipment and support equipment will be delivered, Silina said in Riga. Latvia will also soon send the first drones worth one million euros to Ukraine.

Latvia's drones are "combat-ready"
Silina said that the Ukrainians had already tested the unmanned aerial vehicles and recognized them as suitable for combat. Latvia plans to provide ten million euros for the development of drones this year.

"One or more people" may also be sent to Ukraine in order to coordinate technical solutions for the drones more quickly and flexibly on site.

Border crossings with Russia remain closed
Finland will extend the closure of border crossings to Russia until further notice. In February, the government initially limited the border closure until April 14.

Finland closed its land borders with Russia at the end of last year as the number of refugees from countries such as Syria and Somalia increased.

Arms deliveries to Ukraine

Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for more than two years and is largely dependent on Western support for military equipment. According to Silina, with the announcement of the new aid package, the total military aid provided will reach a value of 392 million euros.

Finland is also expanding the list of ports through which entry is prohibited. Finland joined NATO in the wake of the Russian attack on Ukraine and shares a border of around 1,300 kilometers with Russia.
