"Driven into a wall"
Lena Meyer-Landrut speaks openly about depression
In a new episode of her YouTube documentary "Making Loyal", Lena Meyer-Landrut has now spoken openly about her "depression relapse".
In the documentary, Lena Meyer-Landrut revealed why she decided to show a car accident in the video for her new song "Loyal to Myself". This has a very personal symbolic meaning for her.
"Depression relapse in December"
"For me, the crash is my depression relapse in December, so to speak," the 32-year-old explained. "The crash is the negative thing that I hit the wall with. And then I get out and free myself from it."
Meyer-Landrut already hinted at the end of the year that she was not feeling well, posting a photo from the emergency room, among other things, without revealing why she was there.
"November and December hang heavy over me," she also wrote on Instagram at the time. "All gray and dark and this year it's really getting to me and I'm feeling it on all levels."
"Happy when this is over"
Working on her new music has also pushed Lena to her limits, as she admitted in the documentary series documenting the process of creating her next album. "I tell it like it is: I'll just be glad when it's over."
The former ESC winner has received a lot of encouragement from her fans for her open words about her depression. "You are such a strong woman" or "I think it's really beautiful and remarkable how you reflect your feelings in the song" are just two of the many positive comments under the YouTube documentary.
