Air rescue in the north
C18 rescue helicopter flies to Frauenkirchen
Municipal council gives unanimous green light for option contract. As a bridging solution, the C18 will take off from Wiener Neustadt from April 1.
There is now a new, promising option for the "North" helicopter base: the Christophorus 18 (C18) emergency helicopter operated by ÖAMTC Air Rescue is to serve northern Burgenland from Frauenkirchen in future. The original plan to set up the base in Zurndorf failed last year due to a nature impact assessment. The municipal council of Frauenkirchen has also already unanimously decided to make a suitable plot of land available.
No additional noise development for the population
A nature impact assessment or screening is viewed positively. Mayor Hannes Schmid: "We assume that this location will withstand all official procedures. The finalization of the base in our municipality will be an indispensable building block for emergency medical care in the entire region." The distance from the proposed site to the nearest inhabited area is around 1.5 kilometers, so no additional noise development for the population can be assumed, according to the mayor.
Start on April 1 from Wiener Neustadt
Until the new base is completed, the ÖAMTC air rescue service will be operating an additional helicopter, the C18, from Wiener Neustadt from April 1.
Frauenkirchen base could go into operation this year
The new base in Frauenkirchen could be completed this year - subject to official approval - and the C18 will then provide emergency medical care to northern Burgenland from there.
Contract between the province and ÖAMTC until 2038
The contract between the province of Burgenland and the ÖAMTC air rescue service, which covers the North and South locations, runs until 2038. "Security of supply is therefore guaranteed at all times, and we are already raising the quality of care to a new level. As with the Gols clinic, we are also keeping our promise to the population with this project," said Governor Hans Peter Doskozil.
