The Chamber of Labor has - for the time being - clearly positioned itself against the mega-project. From the route towards Hallein to the lack of an overall transport concept: for Peter Eder and experts, too many questions remain unanswered.

Peter Eder gives an insight into his thoughts: "I'm not going to start concreting the basement if I don't know how high I'm going to build later."

In September, the Chamber of Labor submitted a 60-question catalog to the state. After answering them at the end of January, the AK boss doesn't feel any smarter than before. Motto: "We know that the subway is to be built - but nothing more.

We waited five months to get answers to 60 questions about the S-Link. Unfortunately, the answers are extremely meagre.

Question marks not only behind the route
Eder therefore makes the Keller comparison. Salzburg's AK boss is in principle a supporter of all infrastructure projects. However, the question marks behind the S-Link, Salzburg's transport project of the century, are currently far too big. "Unfortunately, the answers have been meagre," says Eder.

Transport expert Christian Laireiter goes into detail: "The route from Alpenstraße towards Hallein remains a mystery. The total costs of once 650 million euros are now between two and three billion. There is a lack of a holistic traffic concept. According to the survey, people would only get on a public transport system if a boarding point was no more than five minutes away from their front door. Here, too, the plans are unclear, as with tourist car traffic in summer.

Eder's conclusion: "With this level of knowledge, I cannot support the S-Link." The 54-year-old makes an assumption: "Either you don't know more yet. Then it would be irresponsible to promote it. Or we're waiting until after the elections to go into the details." A nationwide survey on the S-Link is to take place in 2024.
