Styrian woman has to wait 2.5 years for eye surgery

Theresia Ederer (74) applied for an eye operation at the end of 2024. Her date: May 2027! Ms. Ederer is one of 12,000 Styrians who are currently waiting for cataract surgery. "By the time I have surgery on my second eye, I may have already died."

Theresia Ederer spent yesterday afternoon in the waiting room of an X-ray institute. "I recently fell down the stairs because I couldn't see the last step in the semi-darkness," says the 74-year-old. Since then, the woman has had pain in her shoulder. "Now we have to find out whether I need an operation or not."
