Animal surprise for a vacationer in a beach hotel in the Netherlands: When the woman opened the door to her room, she discovered a large, gray gray seal dozing peacefully on the floor.

The hotel in Vlissingen in the south of the country immediately alerted an animal welfare organization, which subsequently spoke of a "strange scene": "The guests were standing outside a little tense and the completely relaxed seal was sleeping inside."

Intruder reacted "quite grumpily"
The intruder was woken up and reacted "rather grumpily", the animal welfare organization reported on its Facebook page. The seal was placed in a special basket and "released in a safer and quieter place".

Woman did not want to change rooms
"You think you've seen everything and then something like this happens," hotel employee Valentijn Damen told local media. The woman involved did not ask to change rooms after the incident. "She found it a fascinating experience," Damen reported. "Today is her birthday and she said it was a great present."
