Plöckenpass: road opens later than planned

The Plöckenpass road will be open to traffic again later than planned, the state of Carinthia announced on Friday in consultation with the Italian authorities. 

It has been more than a year since a rock avalanche devastated the Plöckenpass road, particularly on the Italian side. After extensive renovation work, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, following discussions with the road maintenance company ANAS, has now announced to Carinthia that the Plöckenpass road will open to traffic two weeks later than planned - in mid-January.

Gradual opening is planned 
In the first phase, the road on the Italian side will be open to traffic on one side only at weekends in order to ensure the highest possible level of safety for road users and to be able to continuously monitor the entire area. During the week, work on the renovation will continue at full speed.

Opening date to be met
"This delay of two weeks is regrettable for the public and businesses on both sides, but is understandable in terms of construction and safety. The important thing is that ANAS will now definitely meet this new deadline. I would like to thank my colleague Cristina Amirante for her consistent commitment and close technical coordination with the state of Carinthia," emphasized Martin Gruber, Deputy Governor of Carinthia.
