Bayer striker: Serious car accident after winning goal

Hours earlier, he had scored the winning goal for Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga's key match against Eintracht Frankfurt - on Saturday evening, Victor Boniface was then involved in a serious car accident.

The pictures that the striker himself published via Insta-Story (and which have long since been immortalized on Scoial Media) are slightly disturbing. They show a rather battered car, followed shortly afterwards by a hand that is obviously bleeding profusely. He himself looks - unsurprisingly - shocked. The pictures make Boniface's lines seem even more pathetic, perhaps more dramatic. "God is the greatest," he wrote. And: "God has decided that my time has not yet come." Apparently, the Nigerian only narrowly escaped death.

"He is doing well"
According to media reports, Boniface was taken to hospital by ambulance. It is not yet clear exactly what happened - including whether Boniface was the driver or passenger and who exactly was to blame for what. At least "Bild" was able to elicit an official "He's fine" from Bayer Leverkusen. The club, Boniface's employer, speaks of minor hand injuries.
