Heidi Beckenbauer carries the trophy at the opening ceremony

Franz Beckenbauer's widow Heidi will carry the trophy onto the pitch of the Munich Arena at the opening ceremony of the European Championship on Friday.

As first reported by the Ippen Media Group on Tuesday, she will be accompanied by Jürgen Klinsmann and Bernard Dietz before the German national team's opening match against Scotland (9 p.m./live in the sportkrone.at ticker).

Klinsmann and Dietz were captains at the 1996 and 1980 European Championship titles, while Franz Beckenbauer was captain at Germany's first European Championship triumph in 1972.
