Nagelsmann: “Don’t let any discussion arise”

As against Ukraine, Manuel Neuer did not cut a particularly good figure in the test match against Greece (2:1), and was at fault for the 0:1 in the meantime with a blunder. Germany's national coach Julian Nagelsmann nevertheless defended his decision to opt for the Bayern goalkeeper in the box. 

In the 33rd minute of the match, the Greeks had advanced to the home side's goal, Christos Tzolis' shot took an unfortunate deflection off Neuer and Giorgos Masouras took advantage of the slip-up to give the visitors the lead.

The German goalkeeper had already almost conceded a goal against Ukraine with a misplaced pass, and Nagelsmann had to put up with critical questions about his line-up after the game on Friday evening.

"He not only kept the two, but also a few more very well afterwards. I won't allow any discussion to arise, even if everyone tries," said the team boss, standing in front of his protégé. "He saved the 0:0 for us. It's always easy when a mistake happens."

Neuer is undoubtedly one of the best keepers in the world, but in Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the Germans have another world-class goalkeeper in their squad. The Barca professional is unlikely to like Nagelsmann's statements. It's quite possible that there will be a discussion or two at the home European Championships ...
