Vikings win clearly
Demonstration of power against Ilsanker’s “Ducks”
The footballers of the AFC Vienna Vikings also won their second AFL home game of the season, giving the Salzburg Ducks led by former team footballer Stefan Ilsanker no chance - 62:0! Head coach Benjamin Sobotka was delighted: "We did exactly what we set out to do."
The 1051 fans at the Ravelin Football Center were treated to a lot in the AFL duel between the leaders and Salzburg and saw the first touchdown right away. Quarterback Nico Hrouda completed a strong pass to wide receiver Max Fine on the first play of the game, scoring the first points for the Vikings. The extra point made it 7-0 after 20 seconds, the start of a power show. The defense was on point the entire game and the score was already 41:0 at the break in Vienna-Simmering.
It stayed that way until the end of the game: The Vikings defense was often able to stop the Salzburg "ducks", which featured former team footballer Stefan Ilsanker (61 appearances, two European Championship participations), and the offense scored at will. Fabian Eder and Feodor Chepyzhov scored two more touchdowns before Kevin Voznyak's extra point made the final score 62:0.
Vikings head coach Benjamin Sobotka was naturally satisfied after the game: "We did exactly what we set out to do. We wanted to be dominant in offense, defense and special teams. We succeeded in that." He was also pleased "that almost all the players got to play. Given the quality in the league, that's not a given."
