SPÖ warns against post haggling at the environmental service

A man close to an ÖVP politician is to become the new managing director of the UDB. The SPÖ sees a connection with the blockade of the municipal package.

A change at the top of Umweltdienst Burgenland (UDB) - which is a subsidiary of Müllverband Burgenland (BMV) - has set alarm bells ringing for the SPÖ. The successor to Rudolf Haider, who is retiring at the end of the year, is to be someone from the circle of the ÖVP mayor and UDB supervisory board chairman Georg Rosner. From the point of view of SPÖ club chairman Roland Fürst, this is not just "in need of clarification".

Top pay instead of relief?
He also suspects that this was one of the reasons why the ÖVP is blocking the state's municipal package. Because the UDB currently has two managing directors. If the state had taken over the BMV, the number of management positions would have been reduced and the ÖVP would probably have lost its post. "Does the ÖVP prefer to place its people in the waste associations with top salaries instead of allowing real relief for the municipalities? That would be typical of the ÖVP, which sacrifices the self-interests of the ÖVP family for the interests of the country as a whole," says Fürst.

"It doesn't get any lower"
Rosner reacted indignantly: "It doesn't get any lower than this. And from a side that is anything but transparent in terms of personnel policy." The person concerned has been with the company for a long time, has an academic education and is "qualified like no other." There had been a hearing in the nomination committee, from which the person concerned had emerged as the most suitable candidate. He himself had not been involved, had left the room when the Supervisory Board made its decision and would also do so at the BMV Board meeting, said Rosner. And: the other UDB managing director is an SPÖ mayor.
