Just over a month ago, Kate Beckinsale was still in a good mood at the Golden Globes - on Monday, the actress posted frightening pictures on Instagram showing her in hospital. And although she made no comment on what was wrong with her and what exactly the hospital stay was about, it was clear that the 50-year-old is not well.

The actress published photos showing her visibly groggy in a hospital bed. In the caption, she thanked her mother and wished her a happy birthday and Mother's Day.

Her words sound dejected, almost hopeless. After all, what was supposed to be a sweet Mother's Day greeting was a deep look, as Beckinsale is probably facing difficult times, as she hinted in her post. The actress did not reveal why she is undergoing medical treatment.

"Thank you to everyone who loves us and supports us when things aren't going so well and tries to make sure there are some things that are going well. And thank you to those who look after our dogs when we can't, and who remind us of happy times when we can't. And to those who show up when we're sick and sit with us. And to those who send balloons and who reach out and pull us out of the well with love," Beckinsale commented on her post.

Beckinsale would like to "study medicine"
 Things have been quiet around Beckinsale recently. She said a few years ago that she could imagine switching to a different profession. "Lately, I've been thinking a lot about studying medicine," she told Bunte in 2019.

She has many friends who are doctors and tell her about their daily work. "Although I really love my job, being a doctor is the epitome of real work for me."
