Eight teenagers rescued on the Schafberg
On Friday, the mountain rescue team had to rescue eight young people from Hungary from the Schafberg in Salzburg and bring them to safety. The group had previously lost their way and had reached the summit via the dangerous "Hengst" trail after around five hours, where they alerted the helpers when they were completely exhausted.
"This climb is not without danger and has already led to several mountain rescue missions," says head of operations Sigi Gadocher. In the summit area, the Hungarians sought shelter in the area of the closed hotel. After a long break and with the help of the emergency services, they managed to descend safely to Winkl.
"The Hungarian youngsters were very lucky, an excursion like this with inadequate or very poor equipment, local knowledge and tour planning could have ended badly," emphasizes Gadocher.
