Mysterious death at excavator holes

Dramatic scenes unfolded on Tuesday evening at the dredging holes in Rankweil (Vorarlberg). Despite the best efforts of bathers and rescue workers, all help came too late for a 53-year-old German man. He died on the spot. 

Early on Tuesday evening, several bathers noticed a man kneeling alone in the water. At first they didn't think much of it - only when the strange behavior continued and a health problem became increasingly apparent did they rush to his aid and pull him ashore.  

Emergency doctor stopped resuscitation
First aiders who were on the scene immediately began resuscitation measures. These were subsequently continued by the emergency doctor who had been alerted - but without success, the German died on the spot. The police have ruled out the possibility that the accident was caused by someone else. Nevertheless, an autopsy was ordered.
