Moped rider (16) hit by turning car

A 16-year-old moped rider sustained serious injuries in a collision with a turning car in Hittisau, Vorarlberg, on Saturday afternoon. The course of the accident can be described as extremely unfortunate.

At around 2 p.m., a 61-year-old woman was driving her car on the L5 country road coming from Balderschwang in Bavaria in the direction of Hittisau. Shortly before the Völkenbrücke bridge, she started to turn left into the hiking parking lot there.

Two moped riders (16 and 17 years old) following behind were completely surprised by this intention. Just as the woman slowed down in her car, the two started an overtaking maneuver.

While the older man just managed to avoid the turning car, the 16-year-old crashed with full force into the driver's side of the car - the teenager was thrown over the hood into the parking lot, where he remained with serious injuries. After first aid at the scene, he had to be flown by rescue helicopter to Feldkirch Regional Hospital.

The driver of the car also complained of a headache, which is why she sought medical treatment on her own after the accident was recorded. Both vehicles sustained considerable material damage.
