Poisonous mix-up?
Pancakes brought family to hospital
Six people from Obertrum were rushed to hospital on Monday evening with acute food poisoning. The food inspectorate is now investigating the case, because dinner was probably to blame. Was it a mix-up?
Dinner together ended in hospital for an Obertrum family on Monday. Instead of a leisurely evening meal, they were plagued by a nasty case of food poisoning. The six Flachgau residents, aged between three and 72, were already struggling with the symptoms of poisoning during the meal.
Three ambulances, an emergency doctor and the emergency helicopter were quickly on the scene. They took the people to two hospitals in Salzburg - the "Krone" reported.
For a long time, it was unclear how the family had become so unwell so quickly. A gas leak was initially suspected, but was ruled out that evening. A faulty oven and chimney were definitely ruled out the next day. The police have also ruled out the possibility of any outside involvement.
Leftover food in the laboratory for examination
After consulting with those affected, who are all out of danger, the focus shifted to the food. The food inspectorate took action and sent leftover food samples to the AGES laboratory in Vienna.
According to reports, pancakes with a green filling may have been served. A dangerous mix-up of poisonous lily of the valley and wild garlic could be the reason. However, bacteria such as salmonella are unlikely.
