Explosive news
What Schmid, his “buddy” and Benko wrote to each other
The second day of questioning by the COFAG committee this week saw particularly heated discussions about explosive news stories and tax proceedings. The focus: Tyrolean real estate juggler René Benko, who was not present after all, former Secretary General Thomas Schmid and the head of the Financial Market Authority, Eduard Müller, who answered questions in the committee. Who Benko wanted to invite for "drinks at 9 pm" and who Schmid calls a "buddy" - the "Krone" knows the news flow.
After Tyrolean real estate juggler René Benko famously apologized for his questioning in the COFAG committee of inquiry, Eduard Müller, former head of section in the Ministry of Finance and now head of the Financial Market Authority, was questioned first on Thursday. As a reminder: just a few weeks ago, a finance official had testified in the committee that the former Secretary General in the Ministry of Finance, Thomas Schmid, and his then deputy Müller had acted as "twins" in the Ministry of Finance like a "task force". Müller vehemently denied this and more today - not without blaming his former boss Schmid.
