Neymar’s father does not pay! Alves remains in custody

The Brazilian professional footballer Dani Alves, who has been convicted of sexual aggression in Spain, still failed to post the set bail of one million euros on Friday. The court ruled on Wednesday that the 40-year-old will not be able to leave the Brians 2 prison near Barcelona until the sum has been paid into a judicial account.

Alves, who has been in prison since January 2023 and was sentenced to four and a half years in prison exactly one month ago, could then remain at large until the appeal against the sentence is decided. Meanwhile, the father of superstar Neymar, who was a team-mate of Alves in the Brazilian national team and at FC Barcelona, ended speculation that he might advance the sum for Alves. "It's over now," he wrote on Instagram.

It was a different story at the end of last year. Neymar da Silva Santos lent the then not yet convicted Alves money so that he could pay the victim of sexual aggression compensation of 150,000 euros.

Now, however, father Neymar has clearly distanced himself from Alves. "As everyone knows, I initially helped Dani Alves without any connection to any process. In this second moment, in a different situation from the previous one, in which the Spanish justice system has already decided on the conviction, people are speculating and trying to link my name and that of my son to a matter that we no longer have anything to do with today," Neymar Sr. wrote on Instagram. "For us, for my family, the matter is closed," he added.

Sexual aggression
As a long-time professional footballer, Alves is not considered poor, but a large part of his assets are said to be frozen in a legal dispute with his former wife. However, he could be hoping for a pending tax refund from the Spanish tax authorities amounting to several million euros.

Alves was found guilty of sexual aggression on February 22 after a young woman accused him of forcing her to have sex in a toilet at a nightclub in Barcelona on the night of December 31, 2022. Alves has denied the allegations. The sexual acts were carried out with the woman's consent.
