For Hungary's "freedom"
Orbán attacks the EU and wants to “take Brussels”
Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán launched an all-out attack during his national holiday speech on Friday. The right-wing nationalist promised changes in the EU and called his political opponents in Hungary "treacherous to the country".
In his speech in front of the National Museum, Orbán said that if Hungary wanted to preserve its freedom and sovereignty, "we must take Brussels".
Orbán portrays the EU as an oppressor
Today, Europe is becoming ever louder, but the peoples of Europe are worried about their freedom because of Brussels, he said. Hungary should be forced into a war and to take in migrants, he said. "We will not put up with this," criticized the Prime Minister. It was time to rebel, he demanded in front of thousands of supporters.
Orbán claimed that 2024 would be a year of fateful significance, in which the world could be changed by the upcoming EU elections. With a view to the opposition, the prime minister emphasized that on the day of the EU elections, 9 June, a decision must also be made: "Do you stand behind your homeland or do you eat the bread of strangers".
Protests against the prime minister
Anyone on the wrong side would go with Soros (George Soros, Hungarian-born US billionaire and Orbán's number one public enemy), was the message to the opposition.
Various protests against Orbán and his right-wing nationalist ruling party Fidesz are taking place this afternoon. Péter Magyar, ex-husband of Fidesz top candidate Judit Varga, who resigned due to the pedophilia scandal, called for a demonstration starting at 3 pm.
A video message from Yulia Navalnaya, the wife of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, will be shown at the large rally organized by the Budapest city council and various student associations, which will start at 5 pm.
