Helicopter to hospital
Man critically injured in horror crash
On Saturday evening in Nenzing (Vorarlberg), a 28-year-old car driver sustained extremely serious injuries in a traffic accident. He was flown to Feldkirch Regional Hospital by emergency helicopter.
Shortly before 6 p.m., the 28-year-old man from Nenzing was driving on the L190 towards Feldkirch, while a 41-year-old man from Nüziders was driving in the opposite direction at the same time. For as yet unexplained reasons, one of the two drivers drifted into the oncoming lane in the right-hand bend near the Liebherr plant - a head-on collision could no longer be avoided.
Thrown into an embankment
The force of the impact caused the 28-year-old's car to be thrown into an embankment, the 41-year-old's car spun once around its own axis and then came to a standstill in the middle of the road at right angles to the carriageway. While the older man involved in the accident only suffered minor injuries, the younger man was far worse off. He was trapped in his vehicle and had to be freed with a pair of rescue shears.
The man was then flown to Feldkirch Regional Hospital by the Christophorus 8 emergency helicopter. As there are still many unanswered questions about the course of events, the cars involved in the accident were seized by order of the Feldkirch public prosecutor's office. The L190 was closed in the area of the accident for around two hours.
