Video gamers are at the mercy of the big gaming companies these days: If the servers run out, many games quickly run out of steam - even some that could be played on their own. A citizens' initiative in the EU aims to put a stop to this planned game obsolescence.
"Stop Killing Games" is the title of a large EU citizens' initiative that is currently running an online petition aimed at obliging video game manufacturers to provide a playable version of a game even after its official "end of life". The response has been astonishing - and is proof that many people are concerned about archiving video games as a cultural asset. Many games that signatories enjoyed in their childhood are already lost forever. Krone+ explains why this is the case.
