Thief grabbed cell phone when victim called police

A particularly brazen cell phone thief was on the loose at Salzburg Central Station on Friday evening. The suspect tried to snatch his victim's cell phone twice. The second time, while the victim was already on the phone to the police.

Within a few minutes, a 27-year-old Bulgarian tried to snatch a man's cell phone. This was probably only unsuccessful because the victim had tied a tear-proof cord around his cell phone. Particularly brazen: On the second attempt, the victim was making a call to the police emergency number when the suspect yanked on the cell phone again.

Police officers arrested him at a petrol station near the station after identifying him beyond doubt. He was taken to the police detention center.
