Scissors attack in Vienna: Dispute over daily lottery ticket

A 36-year-old man was arrested in a pub in Vienna's city center on Thursday after he allegedly tried to attack a colleague with a pair of scissors during an argument. However, another employee of the bar was able to prevent the attempt, reported the Vienna Provincial Police Directorate on Friday.

The conflict is said to have broken out shortly before 11 p.m. and was about the day's lottery. When the suspect then attacked his 34-year-old colleague with scissors in the course of the initial verbal altercation, another 21-year-old working in the bar intervened and prevented worse.

Suspect still in police custody
The suspect was provisionally arrested and the Vienna State Office of Criminal Investigation, Center East branch, has taken over further investigations. The 36-year-old was still being questioned on Friday morning and was still in police custody. Nobody was injured as a result of the incident.
