Brahms would have tipped his hat, so solemn was the opening of the classical music festival in Klagenfurt's Burghof. The orchestra was rewarded with a standing ovation.

The Amsterdam OchesterCamerata RCO kicked off the 15th anniversary year of the Klassik im Burghof festival with works by Nino Rota (Nonetto) and the Serenade in D major opus 11 by Johannes Brahms. "The castle will remain at the cultural center of Carinthia," said Governor Peter Kaiser (SPÖ), who opened the anniversary series of 15 concerts.

Organizer Michael Springer and his artistic director Günther Trachmann from the Klassik in Klagenfurt association started this success story 15 years ago with 40 guests and four concerts in the first year. Since then, the Burghof concerts in Klagenfurt's cultural hotspot have become an integral part of Carinthia.

The magnificent musicians received standing ovations and thunderous applause on Saturday in the shaded Burghof courtyard. They delighted the audience with an encore. On Saturday, June 15 (11 a.m.), the Celloversum ensemble will brighten up the castle courtyard. Musician Matthias Bartolomey proves as cellist and presenter with his ensemble that six cellos can open up a whole universe of music.
