Tourist stronghold opens its own supermarket

Due to the high prices in the village, many Hallsätter used to do their grocery shopping in neighboring Bad Goisern. According to Mayor Alexander Scheutz, this is set to change. The municipality is introducing its own supermarket - with prices not adjusted to tourists. The store opens its doors on June 5.

Today, Wednesday, the "Markt-Gschäftl" opens in Hallstatt's Kongresshaus. The special thing about it: the supermarket is run by the municipality. "In response to the prices in the local stores being adjusted to suit tourists," says SP Mayor Alexander Scheutz.

To kick things off, the municipality is offering a particularly good deal on beer. A crate of Zipfer-Märzen costs just 14.90 euros to mark the opening.

Open Monday to Saturday
"All groceries are always offered at standard supermarket prices, but both Hallstatt residents and guests can shop here," assures the head of the village. Above all, he hopes that locals will no longer have to run their errands ten kilometers away in Bad Goisern. The new community store is open Monday to Saturday from 7 am to 12 noon. In the afternoon, purchases can be made with an ATM card.

Municipality takes over postal partner office
Yesterday, Tuesday, the municipality also took over the new Post-Partnerstelle in the tourist stronghold. "It's right next to the 'Markt-Gschäftl'," explains Scheutz. This means that the synergies - such as the large storage room - can be used most effectively.
