Traffic jam on arterial road
Activists “planted” a tree on Innsbruck’s Südring
Climate activists from the Last Generation staged another protest in Innsbruck on Thursday morning. Some of the participants stuck themselves to the road and caused obstructions in the early morning traffic on the Südring. A tree was also "planted" in the middle of the main traffic artery.
Once again, the busy Grassmayr junction on Innsbruck's Südring was chosen for a Last Generation protest action.

Traffic jams on the main traffic artery
A tree that was "planted" directly behind the activists, some of whom were glued to the road, caused quite a stir this time. In contrast to the protesters, the road users stuck in the traffic jam were probably less pleased.
Detour prevented traffic collapse
However, the police were able to divert the traffic so that there was no total gridlock. At around 9 a.m., the activists began to remove themselves from the road. A 60-year-old woman was reported as the presumed "rally leader".
Well-known demands
"Planting trees is a nice hobby, but it won't be enough to stop the climate catastrophe. We need a political framework that applies equally to everyone. That is why we are calling for a basic right to climate protection in our constitution," one participant is quoted as saying in a Last Generation press release.
