Where to follow in Gustav Mahler’s footsteps
The city of Klagenfurt is once again hosting events at the composer's cottage this year.
124 years ago, the composer Gustav Mahler had a cottage built in the forest near Maiernigg on Lake Wörthersee. He spent the summer months here, writing the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and parts of the Eighth Symphony as well as Kindertotenlieder and Rückert songs. Every year, visitors can follow in Mahler's footsteps. A varied program awaits them again this year: Mahler Forum, Sunday meals and themed guided tours.
The dates
Nine events are scheduled from May to October. "It is important to us to preserve the composer's house and open its doors to artists and visitors," says Klagenfurt's City Councillor for Culture Franz Petritz. The Sunday Supper, always at eleven o'clock, starts on May 12, when baritone Marian Pop will enchant the audience. "Admission is free," emphasizes Manuela Krassnitzer. But hat money is allowed! The "Mahler Forum" will also be represented in June. The young pianist Mio Moser and singer Irina Otto will enchant audiences in July. Dates: www.klagenfurt.at/kultur
